BEVERLY WILLIAMSON was first inspired to write this book, 'Twas the Night Before Jesus, one afternoon in early summer of 2011. The idea came after she found an old copy of a book that had been packed away in the attic titled, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” This book had been a classic favorite since Beverly was a child, and every year around Christmas time she either read the story, or heard it read by someone else on TV or on the radio. Even though this was her favorite book as a child, it continued right into adulthood. Then as tradition would have it, she began reading it to her daughters when they were very young and discovered they enjoyed it also.
After Beverly found the book in the attic in 2011, she saw the story in a completely different way for the first time. She began thinking about Jesus, and how he should have center stage in such a well-known story as this. As she thought about it, the scripture reference for the foundation of the story came immediately. But it took almost two years to fully research the Bible for the correct content that would follow the same timeline from the birth of Jesus to the time when he went to take his place with God on the throne in Heaven.
The challenge wasn’t in finding the scriptures for the timeline, but in putting it in the format of a rhyme or poem. Writing poems was not difficult for Beverly to do because she had written many poems over the years. The most important thing was to assure that the integrity of Jesus’ life story was not compromised in the pursuit to turn His story into a poem.
A lot of prayer and time went into writing this book, and the hope is that you will make this book a part of a new Christmas tradition in your family for years to come.
